A cricket team never won a match with only the captain playing in the game. A cricket team also never won a match with the captain only expertizing the game. Similarly, the founder plays the role of the roots in a tree, the tree without the roots is dead but the roots can’t replace the leaves, branches, and fruits of the company either, for it to flourish.
A founder’s job is to secure funding, bring in the resources, and be in a constant loop with the investors concerning the growth of a company. With prevailing competition in the market, these tasks get arduous, especially for a start-up. Retrieving employees in a new business is also an assignment that the founder needs to keep up with. But along with many responsibilities and the lack of personnel at the right time, the founder gets deviated from his path and starts looking into other matters, that are his to expertise but not execute.
It is often observed that the founder gets entailed in the marketing, branding, accounting, and sales of a company which leads to over-burdening and lack of finesse in his work. A person can only do so much before he completely exhausts his/her energy. Statistically, lack of manpower in various fields is the reason why 90% of start-ups don’t last in the market for more than five years. A match can only be won or a captain can only rise to the occasion when he is performing at his best while holding faith in their mates that they too are performing to their best of abilities.
